About Camille Nichols

Thank you for visiting my Website. I have been licensed as a Marriage and Family therapist since 1999 and have been seeing clients in therapy since 1994. Many clients are referred to me by their physicians, some by friends or former clients, still others by their insurance companies.

I received my master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy in 1995 from the College of Notre Dame (now Notre Dame de Namurs University) in Belmont, California. My background includes a wide array of psychological orientations encompassing psychodynamic, humanistic/existential, attachment and cognitive-behavioral approaches, as well as depth psychology.

I have received extensive training in art therapy, including a year-long intensive training program in movement-based expressive arts therapy, as well as training in other body-oriented therapies, and in therapy for trauma. I have a great deal of experience in treating persons in recovery from addictions of various kinds, in treating depression and anxiety, in treating LGBTQ clients, as well as those suffering from childhood abuse and neglect and other traumatic experiences. I have significant experience treating new mothers and people having suffered pre and perinatal trauma, this having been the subject of my master’s thesis. I am also trained in sandtray therapy, a modality I frequently use when working with children and adolescents.

In addition to my clinical practice, I have taught graduate students in counseling psychology at New College.
Areas of current interest in clinical practice include training to the Advanced level in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, an approach described in more detail on the Couples Therapy page of my website.

Prior to entering upon training to become a psychotherapist, I worked as an attorney practicing in the area of litigation in Canada and in the United States for 17 years, achieving the status of principal of the law firm where I was employed for nine years. I have also worked as an editor and writer.

I am a mother and a grandmother, which have given me the joy of experiencing love and living life fully, and have encouraged me to consciously push my edges towards growth and change.
